![]() Ohio Wesleyan 82, Frostburg State 48 Nov. 23, 2007 Capital defeated Carnegie Mellon, 77-39, in Friday's other first-round game. Capital and Ohio Wesleyan will square off in Saturday's championship game, set for a 3 p.m. tipoff. The game marks the first meeting between the teams since the 1996-97 season. The Bishops led, 14-11, when Aaron hit a jumper and followed with a 3-pointer, then freshman post Kayla Gordon (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) added a pair of buckets and freshman guard Pam Quigney (Mentor) contributed a steal and fast-break lay-in to give Ohio Wesleyan a 25-13 lead with 8:18 left in the first half. Frostburg stayed in the game, closing to within 29-19 as Jaime Morningstar found Amanda LaPorta for a bucket, then sank a pair of free throws. With the shot clock running out on the Bishops' next possession, Macklin launched a 3-pointer from the top of the key and was fouled by LaPorta, then sank the free throw to swing what might have been a Frostburg stop and a chance to cut the margin to single digits for the first time in nearly 5 minutes into a 14-point Ohio Wesleyan lead. The Bobcats were still within 14 points at 39-25 on Sidra Bing's fast-break lay-in with 3:16 left in the first half when Ohio Wesleyan put the game out of reach with an 11-0 run. Macklin kicked off the run with a pair of free throws and Graf followed with a 3-pointer. Freshman wing Chelsie Spiegel (Upper Sandusky/Riverdale) hit a pair of free throws before buckets by Gordon and senior guard Kathleen Cooper (Columbus/Upper Arlington) finished off the Bishop run, giving Ohio Wesleyan a 50-25 lead at the intermission. Gordon and junior post Laurel Lawson (Navarre/Fairless) shared the Bishop lead with 12 points apiece. Cooper grabbed a team-high 5 rebounds and freshman wing Tyler Cordell (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) led the Bishops with 6 assists. Brittney James led Frostburg State with 11 points and 11 rebounds. In Friday's second game, Capital raced to leads of 7-0 and 20-5 and held Carnegie Mellon to 19 percent shooting from the field during the first half on the way to the win. Caitlin Elsass opened the evening's scoring with a pair of buckets and Heather McAlpin followed with a 3-pointer for a 7-0 Crusader lead. Corey Innes put the Tartans on the board with a 3-pointer, and when Ashley Rothwell hit a jumper just over 5 minutes into the game, Carnegie Mellon was within 11-5, but Capital reeled off the next 9 points, with Caitlin Graessle hitting a 3-pointer and a lay-in and Tiffany Withers contributing a basket and a pair of free throws, to stretch the lead to 20-5. Carnegie Mellon came within 23-11 on Colleen Light's lay-in with 7:53 left in the first half, but Capital ended the period with a 15-3 run, and the margin would remain at least 20 points for the remainder of the contest. Kristen Richardson led Capital with 15 points, while Graessle finished with 10 points. McAlpin, Richardson and Katy Lafferty shared the Crusader lead with 5 rebounds apiece, and McAlpin dished out a game-high 9 assists.
