Vassar 18, Ohio Wesleyan 8

[ Alexa Deaton ]Senior midfielder Alexa Deaton (Eden, Md./Mercersburg Academy) scored a pair of goals that gave Ohio Wesleyan an early 3-1 lead, but Vassar reeled off the next 6 scores and went on to defeat the Bishops in non-conference play on Thursday in Wellington, Fla.

Junior attacker Hannah Mudge (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) scored just over a minute into the game to put the Bishops on the scoreboard, but Vassar's Jennie McAllister answered 20 seconds later to even the game at 1-1.

Deaton rang up an unassisted goal just 19 seconds after that, then converted a free-position shot to stake the Bishops to a 3-1 lead.

Vassar got a pair of goals just over a minute apart from Sarah Warner to tie the game at 3-3, then took the lead with a goal from Jessie Albert and 2 more by Christine Castellan. Goals by Jen Richards and Maureen Byrne finished off the Vassar run.

Ohio Wesleyan rallied in the second half, closing to within 10-6 on consecutive goals by senior attacker Julia Fouts (Cleveland Heights/Hathaway Brown) and Mudge, and were still within 11-7 after a score by sophomore midfielder Abbey Miller (Wollwich, Maine/Morse), but Vassar finished the game with a 7-1 run to seal the win.

Deaton finished with 2 goals and an assist, while Mudge scored 2 goals for Ohio Wesleyan. Senior Maggie Eichenlaub (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) had 6 saves in the Bishop goal.

Warner, Castellan and Christine Eaccarino each scored 4 goals for Vassar. Ariel Nelson had 16 saves in the Vassar goal.
