Ohio Wesleyan 16, Wittenberg 7

[ Julia Fouts ]Senior attacker Julia Fouts (Cleveland Heights/Hathaway Brown) scored twice during a 7-0 run that helped Ohio Wesleyan break open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wittenberg on Wednesday at Roy Rike Field.

The Bishops jumped to a 1-0 lead on a score by senior midfielder Kadi Kuhlenberg (Cincinnati/Anderson) just 23 seconds into the game, and took a 2-0 edge when senior attacker Polly Burke (Milton, Mass.) converted a free position shot.

Wittenberg closed to within 2-1 when Jordan Beauchamp's goal in the seventh minute.

Senior midfielder Alexa Deaton (Eden, Md./Mercersburg Academy) answered with a goal less than 2 minutes later to start Ohio Wesleyan's 7-0 run. Junior attacker Hannah Mudge (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) tallied a goal before Fouts scored twice and Kuhlenberg, sophomore midfielder Abbey Miller (Wollwich, Maine/Morse) and sophomore attacker Elizabeth Lambert (Alexandria, Va.) added scores to give the Bishops a 9-1 lead with 3:32 left in the first half.

The Tigers rallied with scores by Amber Cupples and Lizzie Amorello in a span of 23 seconds, but the Bishops bounced back with a Kuhlenberg goal with less than a minute to play in the half to take a 10-3 lead at the intermission.

Wittenberg rallied in the second half, getting scores from Cupples, Cait Mather and Amorello to slice the margin to 11-6 midway through the period, but Ohio Wesleyan put the game out of reach by scoring the next 5 goals, with Mudge and sophomore midfielder Haleigh Rohr (Nelson, N.H./Northfield Mt. Hermon (Mass.)) each scoring twice during that run.

Mudge led the Bishops with 3 goals and an assist, while Kuhlenberg scored 3 goals and Deaton added 2 goals and an assist.

Senior Maggie Eichenlaub (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) had 11 saves in the Bishop goal.

Cupples finished with 3 goals to lead Wittenberg. Bonnie Kenney stopped 7 shots in the Tiger cage.
