Senior attacker Julia Fouts (Cleveland Heights/Hathaway Brown) scored to tie the game at 6-6, but Notre Dame answered with a 9-1 run and held off an Ohio Wesleyan rally to take a non-conference win on Friday in South Euclid.
Fouts converted a free position shot just 31 seconds into the second half, tying the game at 6-6.
Notre Dame's Gena McPherson scored off a feed from Molly Merrill just over a minute later to put the Falcons ahead for good, and Jenna Schuerman and Ashley Rutz followed with goals less than a minute apart to stretch the lead to 9-6. Rutz and April Pegler followed with scores as the Falcons went up by an 11-6 count midway through the period.
Senior midfielder Alexa Deaton (Eden, Md./Mercersburg Academy) ended the Bishop drought by converting a free position shot with 14:03 left in regulation time, but Rutz and Pegler scored 2 goals apiece to extend the Falcon lead to 15-7 with 8:15 to go.
Deaton and sophomore midfielder Haleigh Rohr (Nelson, N.H./Northfield Mt. Hermon (Mass.)) converted free position goals less than a minute apart to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 15-9, and senior midfielder Kadi Kuhlenberg (Cincinnati/Anderson) and sophomore midfielder Abbey Miller (Wollwich, Maine/Morse) followed with unassisted scores to make it a 15-11 game, but that was as close as the Bishops would come.
Ohio Wesleyan had taken an early 2-0 lead on scores by Kuhlenberg and Fouts, but the Falcons tied the game as the combination of Pegler to McPherson clicked twice. Pegler and McPherson each scored later in the half to break a 3-3 tie and give the Falcons the lead, but the Bishops answered with scores by Fouts and senior attacker Polly Burke (Milton, Mass.) to tie the game at 5-5 before Merrill's goal with 12 seconds left in the first half gave the Falcons a 6-5 lead at the break.
Fouts led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Deaton, Kuhlenberg and Rohr had 2 goals apiece.
Senior Maggie Eichenlaub (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) was credited with 4 saves in the Bishop goal.
Rutz had 5 goals and an assist for Notre Dame, while Pegler contributed 4 goals and 3 assists. Kylie Flett stopped 11 shots in the Falcon cage.
