Ohio Wesleyan 12, Kenyon 11

[ Polly Burke ]Senior attacker Polly Burke (Milton, Mass.) hit a free position shot as time expired to lift Ohio Wesleyan over Kenyon in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday at Roy Rike Field.

Kenyon's Caely Melford had converted a free position shot to deadlock the game at 11-11 with :23 left in regulation time.

Ohio Wesleyan won the ensuing draw and set up the offense, and the Bishops drew a foul behind the Kenyon goal with :07 remaining. After the restart, Burke got the ball near the 8-meter line and was fouled just before the final horn. With a single second on the clock, Burke lined up at the 8-meter line and ripped a shot into the back of the net to end the game.

The Bishops had wiped out a 10-7 deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Senior attacker Julia Fouts (Cleveland Heights/Hathaway Brown) scored off a pass from junior attacker Hannah Mudge (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) to make it a 10-8 game with 9:02 left in regulation time, then Fouts scored off an assist by senior midfielder Kadi Kuhlenberg (Cincinnati/Anderson) with 5:09 left. Fouts then returned the favor, finding Kuhlenberg for the tying goal with 3:56 to play.

Kuhlenberg gave the Bishops an 11-10 lead when her free position shot appeared to glance off the stick of Kenyon goalkeeper Chase Kreuter, then trickled over the line with 1:46 remaining.

Melford's goal evened the game for the Ladies, setting up the final frantic seconds.

The Bishops took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Mudge and Kuhlenberg, only to see Kenyon rally to take a 4-3 lead with the help of a pair of scores by Liz Hancock.

Ohio Wesleyan came back with 3 goals by Fouts, the last with :17 left in the first half, to take a 6-5 lead at the intermission.

Kenyon opened the second half with a 5-1 run, first scoring 3 times in the first 5 minutes of the period, then adding a pair of scores by Melford for a 10-7 lead with 14:18 left in regulation time.

Fouts led the Bishops with 6 goals and 2 assists, while Kuhlenberg finished with 4 goals and 2 assists.

Senior Maggie Eichenlaub (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) had 9 saves in the Bishop goal.

Melford finished with 3 goals and an assist to lead the Ladies, while Amanda Drummond finished with 3 goals. Kreuter finished with 14 saves for Kenyon.
