Ohio Wesleyan 1, Wooster 0

Oct. 24, 2007

Sophomore forward Caitlin Logan (Findlay) scored the game-winning goal midway through the second half to give Ohio Wesleyan a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Wednesday at Roy Rike Field.

The victory raised Ohio Wesleyan's NCAC record to 4-1-2, keeping the Bishops locked in a second-place tie with Denison in the conference standings. The NCAC's top 2 finishers will host semifinal games in the conference tournament on Tue., Oct. 30, or Wed., Oct. 31.

Logan took a through ball from junior forward Michelle Corbett (Dublin/Scioto), made a run toward the Wooster goal, and ripped a shot across to the right side and into the net with 23:41 left in regulation time.

The Fighting Scots had a chance to tie the game in the 80th minute. Wooster had a restart just over the midfield line and Angela Evans sent the ball into the box. The Fighting Scots got a couple of touches inside the Ohio Wesleyan penalty area but were not able to get off a shot, and freshman goalkeeper Laura VanHoey (Rochester, Mich.) covered the ball to end the threat.

Scoring chances were difficult to come by during the first half. Junior midfielder Emily Steger (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake) wound up from the top of the box and ripped a shot midway through the period, but Wooster's Abby Brown was there for the stop. Wooster's Kate Kiley broke loose for a look inside the box in the 28th minute, but her shot went high.

Ohio Wesleyan grabbed the momentum early in the second half, with Steger and Corbett ripping shots which Brown saved in the first 8 minutes of the period. In the 61st minute, Corbett took a through ball from Logan and had a good look at the Scot goal, but Brown made a nice play to preserve the shutout. Less than 2 minutes later, it was Corbett off to the races again after another through ball, but this time her shot sailed over the crossbar.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wooster, 16-12. VanHoey finished with 2 saves, while Brown had 8 saves in the Wooster goal.
