![]() 3rd of 17 at Division III All-Ohio championship Feb. 16, 2008 Otterbein won the meet with 102 3/4 points to 76 for second-place Ohio Northern and 66 for the third-place Bishops. Capital finished fourth with 64 1/2 points, followed by Baldwin-Wallace (51), Oberlin (45 1/2), Heidelberg (41), Case Reserve (37), and Muskingum (29). Marietta rounded out the top 10 with 18 1/4 points, followed by Wilmington (14 1/4), John Carroll (13), Defiance (12), Wittenberg (9 1/2), Kenyon and Wooster (2), and Denison (1/4). Shaffer finished second in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump. She also combined with freshman Lainey Kekic (Canfield/Western Reserve), sophomore Casey Ridgeway (Fredericktown), and sophomore Ashlie Britton (LeRoy/Painesville Riverside) to finish fourth in the 800-meter relay, and teamed with Kekic, sophomore Sarah Shinn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), and sophomore Kara Reiter (Chardon) for a fifth-place finish in the 1600-meter relay. Newman placed second in the 800-meter run and combined with Reiter, Ridgeway and sophomore Claire Everhart (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) to finish third in the distance medley relay. Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Jessica Merrill (Columbia Station/Columbia), who placed third in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump; Kekic, who was fourth in the high jump and seventh in the 400-meter dash; Ridgeway, who finished sixth in the 55-meter dash; freshman Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who was sixth in the mile run; Reiter, who placed sixth in the 800-meter run; junior Laura Binkley (Columbus/Bishop Watterson), who finished seventh in the 5000-meter run; sophomore Santa Zalite (Winston-Salem, N.C./Reynolds), who placed seventh in the 800-meter run; and junior Leah Schmelzer (Marion/Pleasant), who was eighth in the 5000-meter run. |
