1st of 13 at Marv Frye Invitational

[ Ashley Shaffer ]Senior Ashley Shaffer (Lancaster) won 2 events and helped a relay team to another win to lead the Bishops to the team title at the Marv Frye Invitational on Saturday at the George Gauthier Track.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 121 1/2 points to 110 3/4 for Otterbein. Baldwin-Wallace was third with 108 points, followed by Capital (81 3/4), Rhodes (54), Oberlin (52 3/4), Thiel (51), Wilmington (49), Albion (34 3/4), Muskingum (32 1/2), Wittenberg (24), Rose-Hulman (16) and Bluffton (5).

Shaffer won the high jump by clearing 5-1 1/4 and took the 400-meter dash in a time of :58.78. She also finished fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the 200-meter dash. Shaffer also combined with freshman Lainey Kekic (Canfield/Western Reserve), freshman Rachael Newman (Strongsville) and sophomore Kara Reiter (Chardon) to win the 1600-meter relay in 4:04.01.

Sophomore Sharon Rymut (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) recorded Ohio Wesleyan's other first-place finish, winning the discus with a throw of 124-11 and adding a second in the hammer.

Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Casey Ridgeway (Fredericktown), who was second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash; Kekic, who placed second in the long jump, fourth in the 400-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash and tied for fourth in the long jump; Newman, who placed third in the 800-meter run; freshman Jesi Dackin (Reynoldsburg), who was third in the 5000-meter run; senior Malley Adamsky (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), who finished fourth in the javelin; freshman Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who was fifth in the 1500-meter run; sophomore Claire Everhart (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who finished sixth in the 800-meter run; and junior Laura Binkley (Columbus/Bishop Watterson), who placed sixth in the 5000-meter run.
