2nd of 19 at All-Ohio Division III championship

[ Sharon Rymut ]Sophomore Sharon Rymut (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won 2 events and set a school record in leading the Bishops at the All-Ohio Division III championship meet on Saturday at the George Gauthier Track.

Baldwin-Wallace won the meet with 120 1/2 points to 118 for Ohio Wesleyan. Otterbein was third with 99 points, followed by Capital (71), Ohio Northern (68), Marietta (52), Mount Union (40 1/2), Oberlin (38), and Wilmington (31). John Carroll rounded out the top 10 with 29 points, followed by Muskingum (26), Defiance (24), Heidelberg (23), Wooster (14), Wittenberg (12), Denison (9), Bluffton (5) and Kenyon and Mount St. Joseph (0).

Rymut won the hammer with a throw of 142-1, breaking the school record of 134-9 set by Donielle Albrecht in 2000. She also won the discus with an effort of 123-0.

Senior Ashley Shaffer (Lancaster) took Ohio Wesleyan's other first-place finish, winning the triple jump with a leap of 35-7 3/4. She also finished fifth in the 400-meter dash and sixth in the high jump, and combined with freshman Lainey Kekic (Canfield/Western Reserve), freshman Rachael Newman (Strongsville) and sophomore Kara Reiter (Chardon) to place second in the 1600-meter relay.

Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Casey Ridgeway (Fredericktown), who was second in the 100- and the 200-meter dashes; Newman, who placed second in the 800-meter run; freshman Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who was third in the 3000-meter steeplechase and sixth in the 5000-meter run; junior Laura Binkley (Columbus/Bishop Watterson), who placed fourth in the 10,000-meter run; sophomore Sarah Shinn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who finished fourth in the 800-meter run; sophomore Claire Everhart (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who was fourth in the 1500-meter run; senior Donna Langerfeld (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill), who placed fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase; junior Jessica Merrill (Columbia Station/Columbia), who was fifth in the triple jump; Kekic, who finished fifth in the long jump; freshman Jesi Dackin (Reynoldsburg), who was sixth in the 10,000-meter run; and sophomore Santa Zalite (Winston-Salem, N.C./Reynolds), who placed sixth in the 800-meter run.
