at NCAC championship

[ Sharon Rymut ]Sophomore Sharon Rymut (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won a conference championship to lead Ohio Wesleyan during the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet on Thursday at Selby Field and the George Gauthier Track.

Allegheny was leading the meet after the first day of competition with 80 points to 50 for second-place Ohio Wesleyan. Oberlin was in third place with 34 points, followed by Wooster (24), Denison (22), Wittenberg (14), Earlham (6), Kenyon (4) and Hiram (0). Thursday Results

Rymut won the discus championship with a throw of 121-3. She also placed seventh in the shot put.

Also earning all-conference laurels were junior Jessica Merrill (Columbia Station/Columbia), who placed second in the long jump; and sophomore Amy Herrington (Vermilion), who was third in the discus and added an eighth-place finish in the shot put.

Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Jesi Dackin (Reynoldsburg), who finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run; junior Laura Binkley (Columbus/Bishop Watterson), who was sixth in the 10,000-meter run; and senior Ashley Shaffer (Lancaster), who placed seventh in the long jump.

Sophomore Casey Ridgeway (Fredericktown) stood out in the track events, turning in the meet's best time in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash.
