Schmelzer (Marion/Pleasant) led Ohio
Wesleyan at the Mel Brodt Invitational, hosted
by Bowling Green State University on Saturday in Bowling Green.
Ohio University won the meet with 49 points to 77 for Malone. Toledo finished third with 94 points, followed by Bowling Green State (107),
Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne (117), Ohio State (150), Findlay (193), Oakland (202) and Spring Arbor (257). Ohio Wesleyan, the only NCAA Division III team represented in the meet, rounded out the top 10 with 301 points, followed by Northwood (304), Marshall (308), Ashland (324) and Cleveland State (366).
Schmelzer finished 49th among individuals, completing the 5000-meter course
in 19:22.70.
Freshman
Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro,
Pa./General McLane) finished in 57th place in 19:29.46,
freshman Jesi
Dackin (Reynoldsburg) placed 66th in 19:35.78, sophomore
Claire
Everhart (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) followed in 67th place in 19:36.70, and junior Laura Binkley
(Columbus/Bishop Watterson) finished off the
Ohio Wesleyan scoring with an 80th-place finish in 19:47.02.
Senior Donna Langerfeld (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) placed 102nd in 20:18.32 and sophomore Kara Reiter (Chardon) finished 103rd in 20:21.82.
