Defiance 14, Ohio Wesleyan 5

[ Eric McComas ]Senior third baseman Eric McComas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) singled home a run to cap a 4-run second inning that gave the Bishops a 5-0 lead, but Defiance scored 14 unanswered runs to take a non-conference win on Monday in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The Bishops took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when freshman second baseman James DiBiasio (Westlake) led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a single by freshman first baseman Tim Knezovich (Columbus/Briggs).

Senior outfielder Matt Rhode (Port Clinton), DiBiasio, sophomore outfielder Zach Frentsos (Delaware/Hayes), and McComas had RBI singles during the second, giving Ohio Wesleyan a 5-0 lead.

Defiance took the lead by rallying for 6 runs in the fourth, assembling 5 hits, a hit batsman and a Bishope error. The Yellow Jackets added 4 runs in the sixth, highlighted by Tim Pitro's 2-run double, tacked in 3 more in the seventh, and scored their final run in the eighth on another Pitro RBI double.

Junior catcher Steve Ruygrok (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) was 3-for-4, while DiBiasio and Knezovich had 2 hits apiece for the Bishops.

Freshman righthander Kevin Schindler (Mentor) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
