![]() Wabash 5, Ohio Wesleyan 2 March 21, 2009 In the opener, Ruygrok singled home a run that gave the Bishops a 1-0 first-inning lead, but Wabash tallied 3 times in the second and held on for the win. The nightcap saw the Bishops open the game with singles by freshman second baseman James DiBiasio (Westlake), sophomore outfielder Zach Frentsos (Delaware/Hayes), and senior shortstop Logan Hronis (Rocky River/St. Edward) to load the bases. Freshman first baseman Tim Knezovich (Columbus/Briggs) singled home DiBiasio and Frentsos for a 2-0 Bishop lead. DiBiasio and Wabash's Brian Lares traded RBI singles in the second, and Frentsos and Hronis drove in runs in the fourth to stretch the Bishop lead to 5-1. Ohio Wesleyan broke the game open in the sixth as DiBiasio walked and stole second to open the inning. After Frentsos reached on an infield single, Hronis singled down the rightfield line, scoring DiBiasio, before Ruygrok launched a shot to left to make it a 9-1 game. Senior outfielder Matt Rhode (Port Clinton) and sophomore second baseman Josh Gardner (Youngstown/Boardman) drove in runs later in the inning as Ohio Wesleyan took a 12-1 lead. Wabash rallied with 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth, with Sam Starbuck, Lares, and Jake Thomas collecting RBI singles, and the Little Giants added 3 more runs in the bottom of the seventh, with Starbuck smacking a 2-run double and Lares adding another RBI single. Hronis went 4-for-5 for the Bishops, while DiBiasio and Frentsos had 3 hits apiece. Freshman lefthander Mason Farr (West Lafayette, Ind.) started on the mound for Ohio Wesleyan, working the first 5.2 innings. He struck out 7 and walked 2 en route to his third win of the season. Brian VanDuyn was charged with the loss for Wabash. In the opener, the Bishops struck in the top of the first as DiBiasio led off with a single, moved to second and third on infield outs by Frentsos and Hronis, and scored on Ruygrok's single. Wabash took the lead in the second when John Holm led off with a single and Tanner Coggins was hit by pitch. David Seibel followed with a sacrifice, but senior third baseman Eric McComas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) committed a throwing error on the play, with both runs scoring and Seibel winding up at second. After P.J. Tyson was hit by a pitch, Joe Johnson moved the runners over and Chris Deig plated the final run with an infield out. Matt Dodaro led off the Wabash third with a home run to give the Little Giants a 4-1 lead. McComas singled home a run in the fourth to bring the Bishops within 4-2, and the Bishops loaded the bases in the inning to put the go-ahead run on base, but Wabash's Andy Weeks got out of the inning, and the Little Giants tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the inning. McComas had 2 hits to highlight the Bishop offense. Junior righthander Matthew Struble (Defiance/Edon) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan, allowing 5 hits and striking out 8. Weeks pitched the complete game for Wabash, allowing 5 hits and striking out 6. |
