Ohio Wesleyan 14, Capital 2

[ Logan Hronis ]Senior shortstop Logan Hronis (Rocky River/St. Edward) and freshman third baseman Steve Gaydos (Strongsville) smashed home runs to help Ohio Wesleyan defeat Capital in non-conference action on Thursday in Columbus.

The Bishops took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI doubles by sophomore outfielder Zach Frentsos (Delaware/Hayes) and Hronis, then added an RBI single from freshman second baseman James DiBiasio (Westlake) in the second to increase the lead to 3-0.

Capital pushed across a run in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Ian Smith, but the Bishops broke the game open with 5 runs in the fourth.

After a leadoff single by senior outfielder Matt Rhode (Port Clinton), Capital pitcher Devin Mills got the next 2 outs. DiBiasio delivered a single to score Rhode, and the Bishops followed with a walk to sophomore outfielder Scott Wise (Delaware/Hayes), a Frentsos single, a Hronis double, and a single by senior third baseman Eric McComas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) to score 5 runs in the inning.

The Bishops added 2 more runs in the fifth, with freshman first baseman Tim Knezovich (Columbus/Briggs) doubling and scoring.

Hronis led off the sixth with a home run, with sophomore second baseman Josh Gardner (Youngstown/Boardman) and DiBiasio also knocking runs in the inning, and Gaydos belted a pinch-hit homer in the seventh to wrap up the Bishop scoring.

Hronis went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, DiBiasio drove in 3 runs, and sophomore righthander Eric Livingston (Delaware/Hayes) went 3-for-6 for Ohio Wesleyan.

Freshman righthander Kevin Schindler (Mentor) pitched the first 6.0 innings, striking out 4 and walking 3, to receive the mound decision.

Marty Brinker was the starting and losing pitcher for Capital.
