March 12, 2009

[ Kris Boey ]DELAWARE, OHIO -- Kris Boey, Ohio Wesleyan University men's and women's track & field and cross country coach, was named Great Lakes Region Men's Coach of the Year, it was announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Boey guided the Battling Bishop men's team to its second consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference indoor championship, marking the first time since 2001-02 that Ohio Wesleyan had repeated as NCAC indoor champions. Ohio Wesleyan's indoor season will conclude this weekend, when junior Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford) competes in the 55-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III championship at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.

This is Boey's fifth Regional Coach of the Year citation in the last 3 years. He received women's indoor and men's outdoor honors in 2007-08, and swept women's indoor and outdoor laurels in 2006-07.

Boey is in his seventh season at Ohio Wesleyan. The Bishop women's team tied for the NCAC indoor championship this year, Ohio Wesleyan's third consecutive indoor conference title. This marks the second time that the Ohio Wesleyan women's team has taken 3 straight conference crowns, equaling the accomplishment of the 1989-90-91 teams.
