Oct. 7, 2008

Wooster took a 2-0 first-half lead and pulled away in the second half for a win over Ohio Wesleyan in a showdown for first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference on Tuesday in Wooster.

Both teams entered the game with 5-0 conference records, meaning that the winner would remain alone atop the conference standings. The top 2 finishers in the final conference standings will host semifinal games in the NCAC tournament on Nov. 5.

Wooster broke the scoreless deadlock in the 15th minute when Briana Lynch tipped the ball in from a scramble in front of the Bishop cage.

The Fighting Scots added to their lead just under 5 minutes later when Amanda Artman sent a through pass to Eileen Barrer for a breakaway, and Barrer converted the chance for a 2-0 lead with 14:45 left in the first half.

Artman connected on a penalty stroke less than 5 minutes into the second half, and Brittany Montgomery wrapped up the day's scoring by tipping in a crossing pass from Maddie Hart with 5:04 left in regulation time.

Wooster outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 28-6. Junior Krista Murray (Rochester Hills, Mich./University Liggett) finished with 10 saves. Madalyn Myers was credited with 6 saves in the Wooster cage.
