6th of 13 at GEICO Intercollegiate

[ Peter Joyce ]Junior Peter Joyce (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) led Ohio Wesleyan at the GEICO Intercollegiate tournament, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday at Hunter Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.

Southern Illinois won the tournament with a total of 904, defeating Bryant by 7 strokes. Seton Hall finished third at 912, followed by Appalachian State (916), Yale (917), Ohio Wesleyan (925), Lehigh (927), Ohio Valley (933), and Harvard (941). Creighton rounded out the top 10 teams with a total of 953, followed by Wittenberg (954), Savannah State (962), and Wheaton (978). West Liberty State had 2 golfers withdraw and did not post a team score.

Tom Hayes of Savannah College of Art & Design, competing as an individual, won medalist honors with a total of 219.

Joyce shot a third-round 78 and finished in a tie for sixth place among individuals at 226.

Senior Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) tied for 23rd place with a 231, junior Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) and senior Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) tied for 33rd place at 234, and senior Adam Claytor (Columbus/Wellington) tied for 90th place at 264.

Ohio Wesleyan players competing as individuals included junior Tommy Harman (Perrysburg), who tied for 70th place at 248, and junior Michael Sarap (Cambridge), who tied for 75th place with a 250.
