1st of 10 at Wabash Invitational

[ Jeff Nieman ]Senior Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) won medalist honors in leading Ohio Wesleyan to the team title at the Wabash Invitational, hosted by Wabash College on Saturday and Sunday at Trophy Club Golf Course in Lebanon, Ind.

Ohio Wesleyan won the tournament with a total of 592, defeating DePauw by 22 shots. Wittenberg finished in third place with a 621, followed by Allegheny (632), Denison (636), Wooster (646), Wabash (652), Kenyon (674), Hiram (755), and Oberlin (832).

The 36-hole event is the third of 4 regular-season tournaments which count toward determining the North Coast Athletic Conference's automatic qualifer for the NCAA Division III championships.

Nieman shot a 5-under-par 67 during Sunday's second round to finish with a 2-under-par total of 142. He won medalist honors by 5 shots.

Junior Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) finished in third place with a 148, junior Tommy Harman (Perrysburg) finished fourth with a 150, senior Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) tied for fifth place at 152, and senior Adam Claytor (Columbus/Wellington) tied for 16th place at 159.

Senior Kyle Martin (Dublin/Wellington), competing as an individual, tied for fifth place with a 152.
