Two Bishops Named to
PING All-America Golf Teams

[ Jeff Nieman ]Two Ohio Wesleyan University golf players were named to the PING All-America teams, it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Senior Jeff Nieman (Maineville/Cincinnati Moeller) was a first-team All-America selection, while senior Andy Schillig (Pataskala/Licking Heights) was a third-team All-America pick.

At last week's NCAA Division III championship tournament, Nieman tied for eighth place in the individual standings with a 293. He won medalist honors with a 218 at the North Coast Athletic Conference Invitational on May 2-3, and was the NCAC's overall medalist with a 640 in the 4 conference events. Nieman was a first-team All-America selection in 2007 and a third-team All-America choice in 2008 and 2006. He is the first 4-time All-America golfer in Ohio Wesleyan history.

Schillig tied for 22nd place with a 297 at last week's NCAA Division III championship tournament. He was a second-team All-America selection in 2007. Schillig finished second at the NCAC Invitational this spring and was a first-team All-NCAC selection after ranking second in the league with a 663 total for the 4 conference events.

Ohio Wesleyan finished in seventh place in the team standings at the NCAA Division III championship tournament, the Bishops' sixth national top-10 finish in the last 8 seasons.

Junior Jordan Benner (Beavercreek), junior Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South), junior Tommy Harman (Perrysburg), and Schillig were were named Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the GCAA.

To be considered for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors, one must be a junior or senior and must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average. In addition, golfers must have a stroke average under 76.0 for Division I, under 78.0 for Division II and under 79.0 for Division III. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
