Former OWU Assistant Larry Eberst
Dies in Plane Crash

Larry Eberst, former assistant men's basketball coach at Ohio Wesleyan, died in a plane crash yesterday.

Eberst joined the Ohio Wesleyan coaching staff under then-second-year head coach Gene Mehaffey in 1980 and served as Mehaffey's right-hand man through the 1991-92 season. During that time, Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAA Division III national championship in 1987-88, the Battling Bishops' first national championship.

Eberst left Ohio Wesleyan to become head boys basketball coach at Delaware Hayes High School, his alma mater.

Visitation will be Friday, July 17, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 151 W. William St., in Delaware, Ohio. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 82 E. William St., in Delaware, Ohio.
