Wheaton 81, Ohio Wesleyan 59

[ Kyle Holiday ]Senior wing Kyle Holliday (Van Wert) led Ohio Wesleyan with 16 points, but Wheaton defeated the Bishops in the championship game of the Lee Pfund Classic, hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday in Wheaton, Ill.

Junior post Brent Pleiman (Russia) and freshman post Pat Pellerite (Olmsted Falls) scored 4 points apiece to highlight a game-opening 12-8 run for the Bishops.

The Thunder came back with a pair of 3-pointers by Ben Panner to take a 14-12 lead, and Wheaton still led, 20-18, on an Andrew Jahns 3-pointer with 8:38 left in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan tied the game at 20-20 on a pair of free throws by senior wing Kyle Miller (Delaware/Hayes) with 7:48 to play in the period, and the Bishops were still within 23-22 on Miller's jumper with 4:49 to go, but Wheaton answered with a 13-3 run that included a 3-pointer by Jeremy Pflederer and a 3-point play from Andy Wiele, giving the Thunder a 36-25 lead with. :39 left in the first half.

Junior guard Rob Gardiner (Dublin/Coffman) sank a lay-in to bring the Bishops within 36-27 at the half, but Wheaton opened the second half with a pair of lay-ins by Wiele and the lead would remain in double digits throughout the remainder of the contest.

Holliday led the Bishops with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Pellerite finished with 14 points and Miller scored 10 points. Holliday and Miller represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team.

Wiele led all scorers with 26 points, Kent Raymond scored 13 points, and Tim McCrary and Panner had 12 points apiece.
