Wooster 82, Ohio Wesleyan 65

Dec. 6, 2008

[ Kyle Miller ]Senior wing Kyle Miller (Delaware/Hayes) and sophomore wing Dillon McBride (Medina) hit 3-pointers as Ohio Wesleyan trimmed a 12-point deficit to 4 points, but Wooster turned aside the rally and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in the Bishops' North Coast Athletic Conference opener on Saturday in Wooster.

Wooster's Bryan Wickliffe and freshman wing Tim Brady (Dublin/Jerome) traded baskets to open the game before the Fighting Scots took the lead with a 10-0 run that included 3-pointers by Nathan Balch and Justin Hallowell.

The Fighting Scots led, 17-5, on Marty Bidwell's jumper just after the midway point of the first half when Ohio Wesleyan came back with a bucket by junior post Brent Pleiman (Russia) and 3-pointers from Miller and McBride to cut the deficit to 17-13 with 8:48 left in the half.

Miller followed with a 3-point attempt that would have brought the Bishops within a single marker, but Wooster cleared the defensive rebound and Balch scored on a fast break, starting an 11-0 Wooster run that extended the margin to 28-13 with 4:53 left in the period.

Freshman post Pat Pellerite (Olmsted Falls) scored to end that Wooster run, making it a 28-15 game with 4:32 left, but the Scots sealed the win by holding Ohio Wesleyan without a basket for more than 4 minutes, moving out to a 41-18 lead before Pleiman's jumper with :28 left wrapped up the first-half scoring, and the Bishops would not come closer than 15 points during the remainder of the contest.

Senior wing Kyle Holliday (Van Wert) led the Bishops with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Miller added 13 points.

Ian Franks led Wooster with 18 points, Balch added 12 points, and Bidwell had 10 points for Wooster.
