Lynchburg 9, Ohio Wesleyan 8

[ Rob Young ]Junior attacker Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South) scored to give the Bishops an 8-7 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but 10th-ranked Lynchburg rallied for a non-conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday in Lynchburg, Va.

Young staked the Bishops to a 1-0 lead, scoring just over a minute into the game.

Lynchburg responded with a 4-0 run, getting scores from Dylan Hoff, Tyler Tolson, Eddie Bilinkas, and Michael Mundorf to take a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.

Ohio Wesleyan countered with a 4-0 run of its own, with senior attacker Karl Zimmerman (Utica, Mich./Brother Rice), senior attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), and Young scoring goals to tie the game at 4-4 midway through the period. Junior midfielder Ricky Scheetz (Dublin/Jerome) then won the ensuing face-off and found Zimmerman for a goal that put the Bishops ahead, 5-4.

Tolson scored for the Hornets, tying the game at 5-5, but Young answered with a score to give Ohio Wesleyan a 6-5 lead at halftime.

Gallagher and Bilinkas traded goals during the third quarter, which ended with Ohio Wesleyan holding a 7-6 advantage.

Bilinkas scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 7-7 early in the fourth quarter.

Young put the Bishops ahead, 8-7, with a man-up goal off a pass from junior midfielder Chris Ehlinger (Radnor, Pa.) with 7:50 left in regulation time.

Tolson tied the game at 8-8 with a man-up goal with 5:03 left, and Ethan Farrell scored what proved to be the game-winner with 2:09 to go.

Young led the Bishops with 4 goals, while Zimmerman finished with 2 goals and an assist, and Gallagher added 2 goals.

Sophomore Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) had 11 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal.

Bilinkas tallied 3 goals and 2 assists for Lynchburg, while Tolson finished with 3 goals.

Franc Cook made 8 saves for the Hornets.
