Ohio Wesleyan 14, Adrian 7

[ Rob Young ]Junior attacker Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South) scored less than a minute into the third quarter to kick off an 8-0 run that broke a 5-5 tie and put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and senior attacker Karl Zimmerman (Utica, Mich./Brother Rice) contributed 3 goals during that run as the Bishops defeated Adrian in non-conference action on Wednesday in Adrian, Mich.

The Bishops and Bulldogs traded goals throughout the first half, with Ohio Wesleyan taking a lead and Adrian answering with a goal each time. The last occasion saw the Bulldogs' Jeff Ivey score with 3:52 left in the second quarter, tying the game at 5-5.

Young's goal 44 seconds into the third quarter gave the Bishops a 6-5 lead, and senior attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) followed with a man-down goal less than a minute later for a 7-5 Ohio Wesleyan advantage.

Junior attacker Dave Castignola (Dublin/Scioto) then scored a man-up goal off a pass from Young midway through the period to make it 8-5.

Zimmerman tallied a man-down goal to open the fourth-quarter scoring, and junior midfielder Chris Ehlinger (Radnor, Pa.) followed with a man-up goal 34 seconds later that stretched the Bishop lead to 10-5. Zimmerman added 2 more goals and junior midfielder Craig Aronoff (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School) scored at the 8:32 mark of the period to finish off the Ohio Wesleyan run.

Adrian's George Riegel scored with 6:38 left to end the Bulldog drought, but Castignola got that goal back just over a minute later, and the Bulldogs' Eric Hubert scored just before the horn to account for the 14-7 final.

Zimmerman had a team-high 4 goals for Ohio Wesleyan, while Ehlinger and Castignola scored 3 goals apiece and Young finished with 2 goals and an assist.

Sophomore Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan crease, making 12 saves.

Josh Maluta had 2 goals and an assist for Adrian, and Ivey scored 2 goals.

Pat Gaeger recorded 15 saves for the Bulldogs.
