![]() Ohio Wesleyan 24, Oberlin 3 April 1, 2009 Junior midfielder Chris Ehlinger (Radnor, Pa.) put the Bishops on the scoreboard less than a minute into the game before Zimmerman found junior attacker Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South) twice and Young fed Gallagher for a score, all within a span of 59 seconds, as the Bishops raced to a 4-0 lead. Zimmerman, junior midfielder Chaz Narwicz (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep), and Gallagher added scores as the Bishops extended the margin to 7-0 midway through the first quarter, and Zimmerman followed with a man-down score before junior attacker Gavin Cunningham (Rye, N.Y.) scored a man-up goal for a 9-0 advantage. Sophomore defenseman Scott Chester (Medina) scored in transition to make it 10-0 with 1:48 left in the quarter, and a man-up score by Gallagher and another Zimmerman goal gave the Bishops a 12-0 lead. The Bishops' 12 first-quarter goals tied the school record accomplished twice previously, against Mount Union on April 22, 1985, and against Wittenberg on April 9, 1996. Junior attacker Dave Castignola (Dublin/Scioto) and sophomore attacker Shaun Crow (Darnestown, Md./The Bullis School) scored 3 goals apiece during the second quarter, which ended with Ohio Wesleyan leading, 19-0. Dylan Holmes got Oberlin on the scoreboard midway through the third quarter, scoring off a feed from Nick Thypin-Bermeo, and the Yeomen added a pair of scores courtesy of the connection from Jesse Kane to Alex Jacobs, to make it a 20-3 game after 3 periods. Senior midfielder Kyle Adams (North Canton/Hoover) scored his first collegiate goal and freshman attacker A.J. Pellis (Edmonton, Alberta/St. Francis Xavier) compiled a goal and 2 assists to highlight the fourth-quarter action. Zimmerman finished with 3 goals and 3 assists, while Crow had 4 goals and an assist. Gallagher and Castignola each had 3 goals and an assist for Ohio Wesleyan. Sophomore Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) started in the crease for Ohio Wesleyan and made 2 saves. Freshman Dan Huckins (Commack, N.Y./Northfield-Mount Hermon (Mass.)) had 2 saves and sophomore Frankie Weschler (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) had 2 saves in the fourth quarter. Jacobs led the Yeomen with 2 goals. Glen Gerbush started in goal for Oberlin and had 5 saves, while Jon Weisburst stopped 9 shots for the Yeomen. |
