![]() Case Reserve 3, Ohio Wesleyan 2 Oct. 1, 2008 Wall converted a penalty kick in the sixth minute to put the Bishops on the scoreboard. The Spartans evened the game early in the second half. With the ball loose in the Ohio Wesleyan penalty area, Case Reserve midfielder Vinny Bell came in from the left side and hit the ball toward the top shelf. The ball went straight up and caught the net just behind the crossbar with 34:29 left in regulation time. Case Reserve took the lead when Matt Paglia made a long run through the Bishop defense and got a look at the Ohio Wesleyan net. Junior Richard Ott (Norwalk) came out to cut down the angle, but Paglia got off a shot into the left corner of the goal for a 2-1 edge with 28:20 to play. CWRU added some insurance just under 5 minutes later as Elliot Fishman's shot in the box was blocked by a Bishop defender. The ball went right to Jordan Fox, who pounced on the rebound and put it into the back of the net to make it 3-1 with 23:40 remaining. Ohio Wesleyan closed the gap to 3-2 as senior back T.J. Trigg (Westerville/North) lined up for a restart about 35 yards away from the Spartan goal. Trigg's shot sailed just off the fingertips of the leaping Spartan keeper, Konrad Karasek, and under the crossbar to make it a one-goal game with 13:59 left in regulation time. The Bishops pushed the ball forward and created several scoring opportunities, but Karasek roamed the box to break up some crossing passes and made a save of a header by freshman forward Taylor Kiefer (North Canton/Hoover) in the 88th minute, preserving the Spartan lead. Ohio Wesleyan outshot Case Reserve, 20-9. Ott finished with 4 saves for the Bishops, while Karasek had 8 saves for the Spartans. The win was Case Reserve's first over the Bishops. Ohio Wesleyan leads the all-time series, which dates to 1980, by a margin of 18-1, with 1 game ending in a tie. |
