![]() Oberlin 593.5, Ohio Wesleyan 379, Notre Dame 309.5 Jan. 24, 2009 Oberlin scored 593 1/2 points to 379 for Ohio Wesleyan and 309 1/2 for Notre Dame. Gatz won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in respective times of :57.37 and 2:08.57. Gatz's time in the 100 breaststroke surpassed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championship meet and ranks him 15th in the nation in that event. He also finished second in the 50 freestyle. Junior Brad Russell (Delaware/Hayes) also won an event, taking the 1-meter diving with a score of 354.68. The Bishop 200 medley relay team of freshman Jesse Sheldon (Mansfield/Ontario), Gatz, junior Nathaniel Cook (Delaware/Hayes), and junior Kevin Fahey (Delaware/Hayes) accounted for Ohio Wesleyan's other first-place finish, taking its event in 1:40.14. Other standouts for the Bishops included Kevin Fahey, who posted second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke, the 100 freestyle and the 200 breaststroke; Sheldon, who was second in the 100 and 100 backstroke events and third in the 50 freestyle; senior Brian Fahey (Delaware/Hayes), who was third in the 1000 freestyle; and junior Chris Potterton (Needham, Mass.), who placed third in the 500 freestyle. The Bishop 800 freestyle relay team of Kevin Fahey, Sheldon, Potterton and Gatz finished second in its event. |
