[ Brad Russell ]Junior Brad Russell (Delaware/Hayes) recorded Ohio Wesleyan's best individual finish on the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet on Thursday in Canton.

After the first day of competition, Denison was leading the meet with 621 points to 393 1/2 for Kenyon. Wittenberg was in third place with 297 1/2 points, followed by Allegheny (207), Wabash (179), Wooster (168), Oberlin (132), Hiram (90), and Ohio Wesleyan (73).

Russell finished eighth in the 3-meter diving event.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior David Gatz (Delaware/Hayes), who finished 16th in the 200 IM.

The Bishop 400 medley relay team of freshman Jesse Sheldon (Mansfield/Ontario), junior Kevin Fahey (Delaware/Hayes), Gatz, and junior Chris Potterton (Needham, Mass.) finished ninth.

The NCAC championship continues on Friday, with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and finals commencing at 6:30 p.m.
