8th of 9 at NCAC Relays

[ Kevin Fahey ]Junior Kevin Fahey (Delaware/Hayes), senior Brian Fahey (Delaware/Hayes), junior Nathaniel Cook (Delaware/Hayes) and junior David Gatz (Delaware/Hayes) won an event to lead Ohio Wesleyan at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays meet, hosted by Kenyon College on Saturday in Gambier.

The annual lidlifter of the swimming season, the meet consists of relay events and is scored similarly to the conference championship meet. Denison won the meet with 170 points to 152 for runner-up Kenyon. Wooster was third with 96 points, followed by Wittenberg (94), Wabash (92), Oberlin and Allegheny (76), Ohio Wesleyan (50) and Hiram (30).

Fahey, Fahey, Cook and Gatz combined to win the 200 breaststroke relay in 1:50.59, defeating second-place Kenyon by nearly 2 seconds. It marked the second straight NCAC Relays win for the Bishops in the event, with Kevin Fahey, Cook and Gatz returning from the Bishop team that clocked a 1:51.18 to win the 200 breaststroke relay at last year's NCAC Relays meet.

Kevin Fahey and Gatz also combined with freshman Nathan Eckersley (Cleveland/Mayfield) to finish ninth in the 1500 freestyle relay.

Kevin Fahey, Cook and Gatz also swam on 2 other Bishop relay teams, combining with freshman Jesse Sheldon (Mansfield/Ontario) to place 13th in the 200 medley relay, and teaming with freshman Michael Gatz (Delaware/Hayes) to finish 15th in the 200 butterfly relay.

Kevin Fahey, David Gatz and Sheldon teamed with Eckersley for a 16th-place finish in the 200 backstroke relay, and combined with junior Usman Javaid (Lahore, Pakistan/Aitchison) to finish 20th in the 500 freestyle crescendo relay.

Sheldon, freshman Evan Huddleson (Westerville/Central), Cook and Kevin Fahey combined to finish 16th in the 200 freestyle relay, and Cook, Huddleson, junior Chris Potterton (Needham, Mass.), and Eckersley finished 25th in the 400 IM relay.
