T5th of 7 at Washington Invitational

[ David Gatz ]Junior David Gatz (Delaware/Hayes) recorded Ohio Wesleyan's best individual finishes in leading the Bishops at the Thanksgiving Invitational, hosted by Washington University on Saturday and Sunday in St. Louis.

Missouri Science & Technology won the meet with 934 points to 717 for host Washington. Lindenwood finished third with 605 points, followed by Olivet (527), Ohio Wesleyan and Albion (287), and Hannibal-La Grange (73).

Gatz finished second in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, and added an eighth-place finish in the 200 butterfly. He also combined with freshman Jesse Sheldon (Mansfield/Ontario), junior Nathaniel Cook (Delaware/Hayes) and junior Kevin Fahey (Delaware/Hayes) to finish fifth in both the 200 and 400 medley relay events.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Fahey, who placed fifth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 breaststroke; freshman Nathan Eckersley (Cleveland/Mayfield), who was sixth in the 1650 freestyle and ninth in the 200 butterfly; junior Brad Russell (Delaware/Hayes), who finished eighth in the 1-meter diving; and Sheldon, who was ninth in the 100 backstroke and 10th in the 200 backstroke.

The Bishop 200 freestyle relay team of Sheldon, freshman Michael Gatz (Delaware/Hayes), David Gatz and Fahey finished sixth, as did the 400 freestyle relay team of Sheldon, junior Chris Potterton (Needham, Mass.), David Gatz, and Fahey.
