Ohio Wesleyan 112, Wilmington 84

[ David Gatz ]Junior David Gatz (Delaware/Hayes) won 2 events and surpassed a national qualifying standard as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Wilmington in a non-conference dual meet on Saturday at Pfeiffer Natatorium.

Gatz won the 50 freestyle in :23.55 and clocked a :58.08 in winning the 100 breaststroke, surpassing the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championship meet.

Junior Kevin Fahey (Delaware/Hayes) and freshman Jesse Sheldon (Mansfield/Ontario) also won 2 events apiece. Fahey won the 500 and 1000 freestyles in respective times of 5:09.70 and 10:31.27, while Sheldon won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.65 and took the 100 backstroke in :57.47.

Gatz, Fahey and Sheldon also combined with junior Nathaniel Cook (Delaware/Hayes) to win the 200 medley relay in 1:43.69.

Junior Chris Potterton (Needham, Mass.) recorded Ohio Wesleyan's other first-place finish, taking the 200 IM in 2:13.30 and adding a second in the 200 butterfly.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Andrew Sisson (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe), who placed second in the 100 freestyle; freshman Nathan Eckersley (Cleveland/Mayfield), who was second in the 500 freestyle; freshman Reed Fogle (Delaware/Hayes), who finished second in the 100 breaststroke; and Cook, who placed third in the 100 and 200 freestyles.
