1st of 10 at NCAC Relays

[ Ryan Ellis ]The Ohio Wesleyan 800-meter relay team of senior Ryan Ellis (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), sophomore Sean Patrick (Delaware/Hayes), sophomore Jordon Exeter ( Toronto, Ontario/Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy) and senior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton) set a meet record in helping the Bishops successfully defend their North Coast Athletic Conference Relays title at the NCAC Relays meet on Saturday in Granville.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 89 1/2 points to 62 for runner-up Wabash. Oberlin finished in third place with 57 1/2 points, followed by Allegheny (56), Wittenberg (54 1/2), Wooster (43), Denison (41 1/2), Kenyon (31), Earlham (25), and Hiram (0). The meet consists of relays, running events and field events, with the running events and field events scored by ranking the combined efforts of each school's top 2 participants.

The championship is the Bishops' third NCAC Relays title in the last 4 seasons.

Ellis, Patrick, Exeter and Osborn won the 800-meter relay in 1:30.59, breaking their own record of 1:31.46 set last year.

Ellis, Patrick and Osborn also combined with senior Preston Osborn (Edgerton) to win the 1600-meter relay in 3:26.92.

Junior David Burke (Hudson) was on a pair of 2 first-place relay teams, combining with Exeter to win the long jump relay with a total of 42-10 3/4, and teaming with sophomore Parone Mulrain (Chicago, Ill./Latin School) to win the triple jump relay with a total of 87-3/4.

The Bishop 3200-meter relay team of freshman Sharif Kronemer (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), freshman Kyle Lemke (Loudonville), freshman Kale Booher (Covington/Newton), and freshman John Batchelder (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) won its event in 8:01.36.

The sprint medley relay team of junior Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford), freshman A.J. Sayed (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte), Preston Osborn, and junior Christian Schlabach (Wooster/Triway) took Ohio Wesleyan's other first-place finish, winning its event in 3:39.63.

Senior David Stefanik (Wooster) and freshman Evan Hitchcock (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) combined to finish second in the 5000-meter run relay, with Stefanik's time of 15:16.43 breaking the school record of 15:22.90 set by Matt Kempton in 2004.

Brown and senior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) teamed up to finish second in the 55-meter hurdles relay.
