2nd of 20 at All-Ohio Division III meet

[ Ryan Ellis ]Senior Ryan Ellis (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), sophomore Sean Patrick (Delaware/Hayes), and senior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton) helped a pair of relay teams set school records in leading Ohio Wesleyan at the All-Ohio Division III championship meet, hosted by Otterbein College on Saturday in Westerville.

Ohio Northern won the meet with 91 points to 74 for second-place Ohio Wesleyan. Heidelberg finished third with 71 1/2 points, followed by Otterbein (45), Baldwin-Wallace (40), Marietta (39), Mount Union (36), Oberlin (30), and Capital and Denison (24). Wittenberg scored 21 points to finish in 11th place, followed by Defiance (14), Wilmington (12 1/2), Muskingum (11), Kenyon, Mount St. Joseph and Wooster (10), Case Reserve (9), John Carroll (6), and Bluffton (5).

Ellis, Patrick and Osborn teamed with sophomore Jordon Exeter (Toronto, Ontario/Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy) to win the 800-meter relay in a time of 1:29.54, breaking not only the school record of 1:29.99 set by Matt Churpek, Jason Martin, Clemon Choice, and Tyler Stillman in 2000, but the meet record of 1:30.04 set by Heidelberg last year.

Ellis, Patrick and Osborn combined with senior Preston Osborn (Edgerton) to finish second in the 1600-meter relay in a time of 3:25.28, breaking the school record of 3:26.12 set last year by Preston Osborn, Ellis, junior Bryce Mathias (Centerburg), and Nathan Osborn.

Junior Kyle Faris (Olmsted Falls) also joined in on the assault on the Ohio Wesleyan record books, with his toss of 46-11 3/4 in the weight throw breaking the school record 44-8 3/4 set by George Shihadeh in 2005.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior David Burke (Hudson), who finished third in the long jump and the triple jump; junior Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford), who was third in the 55-meter hurdles; senior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles; freshman John Batchelder (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who was fourth in the mile run; Nathan Osborn, who placed fourth in the 400-meter dash; Exeter, who finished fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 55-meter dash; senior Garret Andre-Johnson (Walnut Creek, Calif./Berkeley), who was fifth in the 800-meter run; senior Clay Davis (Dublin/Coffman), who was sixth in the 5000-meter run; senior Jon Smith (Clyde/Bellevue), who finished eighth in the pole vault; and Preston Osborn, who was eighth in the 400-meter dash.

The Bishop distance medley relay team of junior Christian Schlabach (Wooter/Triway), sophomore Kody Law (Reynoldsburg), freshman Kyle Lemke (Loudonville), and freshman Kale Booher (Covington/Newton) finished third in its event.
