at OWU Pentathlon

[ Andrew Bloom ]Senior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) finished fourth among collegiate competitors at the inaugural OWU Pentathlon meet on Friday in Gordon Field House.

The indoor pentathlon consists of 5 events: 55-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 1000-meter run. This is the first year that the pentathlon is being contested at the NCAA Division III championships.

Bloom, the 2-time defending North Coast Athletic Conference champion in the decathlon, recorded the second-best effort of the night in the 55-meter hurdles. His time of :07.88 trailed only junior Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford), who clocked a meet-best :07.83.

Bloom went 19-6 1/2 in the long jump, threw 29-11 in the shot put, cleared 5-11 1/4 in the high jump, and finished the 1000-meter run in 3:09.01 to finish with 3091 points.
