at NCAC championship

[ Kyle Faris ]Junior Kyle Faris (Olmsted Falls) and junior David Burke (Hudson) won All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors and junior Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford) surpassed a national qualifying standard to lead Ohio Wesleyan at the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference indoor track & field championship meet, hosted by Denison University on Friday in Granville.

Allegheny was leading the meet with 36 points to 24 for Ohio Wesleyan. Earlham was in third place with 16 points, followed by Denison, Wooster, and Wittenberg (8), Wabash (7), and Kenyon and Oberlin (5).

Faris finished second in the shot put, while Burke was third in the triple jump.

Also scoring for Ohio Wesleyan were freshman A.J. Sayed (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte), who placed fifth in the triple jump; sophomore Parone Mulrain (Chicago, Ill./Latin School), who finished sixth in the triple jump; and freshman Evan Hitchcock (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), who finished sixth in the 5000-meter run.

Brown recorded the meet's fastest time in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles. His time of :07.67 surpassed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championship meet to be held March 13-14 in Terre Haute, Ind. Senior Preston Osborn (Edgerton) also had the meet's fastest time in his event, turning in a :50.59 in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash.

The NCAC indoor track & field championship concludes on Saturday.
