at Rose-Hulman Early Bird

[ David Burke ]Junior David Burke (Hudson) won 2 events to lead Ohio Wesleyan at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational, hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.

The meet, which included competitors from Evansville, Hanover, Ohio Wesleyan, Rose-Hulman, Webster, and Wisconsin, was not scored.

Burke won the long jump and the triple jump, recording efforts of 20-9 3/4 and 43-7 1/4 in the respective events. He also finished fourth in the high jump and the 100-meter dash.

The foursome of junior Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford), senior Ryan Ellis (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), senior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton), and sophomore Sean Patrick (Delaware/Hayes) also had a productive day, combining to win the 400-meter relay in :42.93. Individually, Brown won the 110-meter hurdles in :15.25, Ellis won the 100-meter dash in :11.43, Osborn won the 200-meter dash in :22.89 and added a third in the 100-meter dash, and Patrick posted seconds in the 200- and 400-meter dashes.

Also winning events for Ohio Wesleyan were freshman John Batchelder (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who won the 800-meter run in 1:58.31; and senior Garret Andre-Johnson (Walnut Creek, Calif./Berkeley), who won the 1500-meter run in 4:03.29.

Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Parone Mulrain (Chicago, Ill./Latin School), who finished second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump; senior Jon Smith (Clyde/Bellevue), who was second in the pole vault; senior Alex Havran (Woodinville, Wash./Overlake), who placed second in the javelin; freshman Sharif Kronemer (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), who was second in the 1500-meter run; junior Will Alford (Maple Heights), who finished second in the 100-meter dash; senior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who tied for second in the high jump; freshman A.J. Sayed (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte), who placed third in the triple jump and the long jump; sophomore Kody Law (Reynoldsburg), who was third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 400-meter dash; senior David Stefanik (Wooster), who placed third in the 1500-meter run; freshman David Franklin (Reynoldsburg), who was third in the 110-meter hurdles; senior Preston Osborn (Edgerton), who finished third in the 400-meter hurdles; sophomore Jeff Driscoll (Shreve/Triway), who was fourth in the 800-meter run; senior Brandon Hunter (Twinsburg), who finished fourth in the javelin; freshman Kyle Lemke (Loudonville), who was fourth in the 800-meter run; sophomore Kyle Herman (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls), who placed fifth in the 800-meter run; senior Bobby Polley (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), who finished fifth in the javelin; junior Brandon Cannon (Dublin/Scioto), who was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles; freshman Matt Haines (Downingtown, Pa./Delaware County Christian), who placed fifth in the 200-meter dash; junior Bryce Mathias (Centerburg), who was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles; and freshman Phillip Forsgren (Vienna, Austria/American International), who tied for fifth in the pole vault.

The Bishop 1600-meter relay team of Mathias, Lemke, Batchelder, and Preston Osborn finished second.
