at VMI/W&L Track & Field Carnival

[ David Burke ]Junior David Burke (Hudson), junior Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford), and senior Preston Osborn (Edgerton) won events to lead Ohio Wesleyan at the VMI/W&L Track & Field Carnival, hosted by Virginia Military Institute and Washington & Lee on Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Va.

The meet, which included competitors from Carnegie Mellon, DeSales, Duquesne, Eastern Mennonite, Elizabethtown, Emory & Henry, Huntington, Lebanon Valley, Liberty, Longwood, Messiah, Northwood, Ohio Wesleyan, Slippery Rock, Southern Virginia, Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Wesleyan, and Washington & Lee, was not scored.

Burke won the long jump with an effort of 22-3 1/4 and finished third in the triple jump and fourth in the high jump.

Brown won the 110-meter hurdles in :15.50 and placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles.

Osborn won the 400-meter hurdles in :55.09 and teamed with junior Bryce Mathias (Centerburg), sophomore Sean Patrick (Delaware/Hayes), and senior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton) to win the 1600-meter relay in 3:20.56.

The Bishop 3200-meter relay team of senior Garret Andre-Johnson (Walnut Creek, Calif./Berkeley), freshman Sharif Kronemer (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), freshman John Batchelder (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), and freshman Kyle Lemke (Loudonville) won its event in 7:53.16.

Junior Kyle Faris (Olmsted Falls) set a school record in the hammer, with his throw of 143-6 breaking the mark of 138-2 set by Jordon Sampson in 2005. Faris's effort in the hammer was good for an eighth-place finish. He also placed sixth in the shot put and eighth in the discus.

Other standouts for the Bishops included senior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who finished second in the decathlon; senior David Stefanik (Wooster), who was third in the 3000-meter steeplechase; freshman David Franklin (Reynoldsburg), who was third in the 110-meter hurdles; Mathias, who placed third in the 400-meter hurdles; Nathan Osborn, who finished fourth in the 400-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash; Patrick, who was fourth in the 100-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter dash; senior Alex Havran (Woodinville, Wash./Overlake), who placed fourth in the javelin; freshman Evan Hitchcock (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), who finished sixth in the 5000-meter run; senior Brandon Hunter (Twinsburg), who finished seventh in the javelin; junior Brandon Cannon (Dublin/Scioto), who was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles; sophomore Parone Mulrain (Chicago, Ill./Latin School), who finished ninth in the triple jump and 10th in the long jump; senior Bobby Polley (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), who finished ninth in the javelin; and Lemke, who was 10th in the 800-meter run.

The Bishop 400-meter relay team of Brown, junior Will Alford (Maple Heights), Nathan Osborn, and Patrick finished second in its event.
