1st of 20 at All-Ohio Division III championship

[ Clay Davis ]Senior Clay Davis (Dublin/Coffman) and junior Steve Brown (Redford Township, Mich./Redford) won All-Ohio titles in leading Ohio Wesleyan to the team championship at the All-Ohio Division III championship meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at the George Gauthier Track.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 108 points to 100 for runner-up Ohio Northern. Heidelberg was third with 89 points, followed by Baldwin-Wallace (74), Mount Union (57), Oberlin (41), Marietta (38), Capital (36 1/2), and Wilmington (30 1/2). Defiance rounded out the top 10 team finishers with 30 points, followed by Otterbein (28) John Carroll and Wooster (25), Bluffton (23), Denison (19), Wittenberg and Muskingum (18), Kenyon (8), Mount St. Joseph (6), and Franciscan (5).

Brown won the 110-meter hurdles in :14.73, setting an All-Ohio championship meet record and surpassing the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championship meet to be held May 21-23 at Marietta.

Davis won the 10,000-meter run in a time of 32:11.75.

Senior Preston Osborn (Edgerton) also surpassed a provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championship meet, finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of :53.86.

Junior Kyle Faris (Olmsted Falls) finished third in the hammer with a throw of 145-9, breaking his own school record of 143-6 set earlier this season. Faris also finished seventh in the discus and eighth in the shot put.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior David Burke (Hudson), who finished second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump; senior Nathan Osborn (Edgerton), who placed second in the 400-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash; senior David Stefanik (Wooster), who was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase and seventh in the 5000-meter run; senior Andrew Bloom (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne), who finished third in the 110-meter hurdles; senior Brandon Hunter (Twinsburg), who placed fifth in the javelin; junior Bryce Mathias (Centerburg), who placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles; sophomore Jordon Exeter (Toronto, Ontario/Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy), who was sixth in the long jump; freshman A.J. Sayed ( Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte), who finished sixth in the triple jump; freshman Evan Hitchcock (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), who was sixth in the 10,000-meter run; senior Bobby Polley (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), who finished seventh in the javelin; freshman Kale Booher (Covington/Newton), who was eighth in the 1500-meter run; and freshman Sharif Kronemer (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), who was eighth in the 800-meter run.

The Bishop 400-meter relay team of Brown, Exeter, Nathan Osborn, and sophomore Sean Patrick (Delaware/Hayes) finished third in its event, as did the 1600-meter relay team of Mathias, Preston Osborn, Patrick, and Nathan Osborn.
