Rensselaer 9, Ohio Wesleyan 6

March 10, 2009

[ Sarah Cook ]Junior shortstop Sarah Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) singled in a run as Ohio Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first, but Rensselaer scored 7 straight times to take the lead and went on to defeat the Bishops in non-conference action on Tuesday in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Red Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first only to see the Bishops answer with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. Junior second baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) singled and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch, and Cook followed with a single to score freshman infielder Ashley Allen (Richwood/North Union).

Rensselear took the lead with 2 runs in the second, then added 2 runs in the fourth and 3 more in the sixth, thanks in part to a 2-run homer by Jen Bach.

Ohio Wesleyan rallied in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases for Bradley, who cleared them with a triple. Sophomore shortstop Kaylie Titus (East Hampton, N.Y.) followed with a single to score Bradley and bring the Bishops within 8-6, but the rally ended there, and the Red Hawks tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.

Freshman righthander Lauren McIntire (Marysville/Buckeye Valley) worked the first 5.0 innings in the circle and was charged with the loss.

Titus was 2-for-2 for the Bishops, while Bradley went 2-for-4.
