Ohio Wesleyan 2, Bowdoin 1

March 14, 2009

[ Krystle Skaziak ]Sophomore shortstop Kaylie Titus (East Hampton, N.Y.) plated junior outfielder Krystle Skaziak (Dublin/Scioto) for both Ohio Wesleyan runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth inning, to lift the Bishops over Bowdoin on Saturday in Cape Coral, Fla.

With the win, Ohio Wesleyan finishes its spring trip with a record of 8-1-1.

Trailing, 1-0, in the top of the sixth, the Bishops evened the game when Skaziak and junior second baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) opened the inning with bunt singles. Freshman third baseman Ashley Allen (Richwood/North Union) sacrificed the runners to second and third and Titus followed with a squeeze bunt that scored Skaziak.

In the bottom of the eighth, sophomore catcher Sarah Truchan (Westfield Center/Brunswick) was placed on second to start the inning. Junior second baseman Devon Walker (Baltimore/Watkins Memorial) sacrificed Truchan to third and Skaziak reached on a bunt single to put runners on the corners. The Polar Bears intentionally walked Bradley to load the bases, and the strategy worked when Truchan was forced at the plate on Allen's infield grounder. Titus then drew a walk on a full-count pitch, forcing home Skaziak with the game-winning run.

Skaziak and junior third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) each went 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan.

Junior lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) pitched the complete game for the Bishops, scattering 4 hits and striking out 7.

Kara Nilan was charged with the loss in relief for Bowdoin.
