Junior first baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) doubled home a pair of runs during a seventh-inning rally that brought Ohio Wesleyan within 5-3, but Muskingum held on for a win in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday in New Concord.

In the nightcap, Muskingum's Heather Martin threw a 3-hit shutout as the Muskies completed a sweep of the twinbill.

The opener featured a matchup between Ohio Wesleyan junior lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe), who was 5-0 entering the contest, and Muskingum ace Amy Mattin.

The Muskies got on the scoreboard first, tallying 3 times in the third with the help of RBI singles by Chloe Moloney and Mary Margaret Boda.

Muskingum added 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of errors by Seibel and junior third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) to increase the lead to 5-0.

Mattin took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but Ohio Wesleyan rallied as Cook smashed a one-out double to left, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on an infield out by freshman catcher Nikka Bonamase (Canfield/Youngstown Ursuline). Sophomore outfielder Kayla Gordon (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) then drew a walk, and both runners scored on Bradley's double to center, bringing the Bishops within 5-3, but Mattin recovered to get the final out and end the game.

Seibel struck out 2 and walked 2 in pitching the complete game.

In the nightcap, the Muskies pushed across runs in the first and second innings, collecting back-to-back doubles by Mallory Hay and Moloney for a 1-0 lead in the first, and a Jessica Bosway squeeze bunt that scored Ally Mazzei in the second.

Junior outfielder Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) broke up Martin's no-hitter with a one-out single in the fourth. Sanders stole second and moved to third when Muskie catcher Mazzei's throw went awry, but was stranded there.

The Muskies tacked on a run in the fourth as Boda led off with a double, moved to third on an infield out, and scored on a wild pitch.

Ohio Wesleyan again threatened in the seventh, collecting a walk to freshman third baseman Ashley Allen (Richwood/North Union) and singles by Rita Cook and junior outfielder Sarah Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn), but Martin worked out of the jam to complete the shutout.

Freshman righthander Lauren McIntire (Marysville/Buckeye Valley) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan, striking out 3 and walking none.
