[ Devon Walker ]Junior second baseman Devon Walker (Baltimore/Watkins Memorial) smashed a bases-loaded double during a 5-run sixth inning that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 7-6 lead, but Albion rallied to take a win in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday in Albion, Mich.

In the nightcap, Albion's Jenna Hogg threw a 2-hit shutout as the Britons completed a sweep of the twinbill.

Trailing, 6-2, going into the sixth, the Bishops loaded the bases with nobody out as junior third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) singled, junior outfielder Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) walked and sophomore catcher Sarah Truchan (Westfield Center/Brunswick) singled before Walker cleared the bases with a double to right center. Freshman catcher Nikka Bonamase (Canfield/Youngstown Ursuline) followed with a walk, chasing Albion starter Erin Giannotta, and junior first baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) greeted reliever Amber Hummel with a single to re-fill the bases. Walker would score on a passed ball to tie the game, and sophomore shortstop Kaylie Titus (East Hampton, N.Y.) delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Bonamase with the go-ahead run.

Albion answered in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with one out on singles by Samantha Kolling, Jessica Stange, and Tate Kern. Freshman righthander Britt Rhea (Mount Vernon) got Jenna Dumbleton to bounce to shortstop, with the Bishops cutting down the lead runner at the plate for the second out, but Brenna Przeslawski and Morgan Barnes each lined 2-run doubles to give the Britons the lead for good.

Albion had taken a 4-0 lead in the first, with Dumbleton's 2-run single the key hit.

Walker's RBI single in the second brought the Bishops within 4-1, and Titus doubled in a run in the fifth to make it a 6-2 game.

Walker went 2-for-4 and drove in 4 runs, while Titus had 2 RBI for the Bishops.

Junior lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) pitched the first 2.0 innings and was not involved in the decision, and Rhea was charged with the loss in relief.

In the nightcap, Przeslawski drove in runs in the first and third innings to help the Britons to a 3-0 lead, and the hosts put the game out of reach with 3 runs in the sixth.

Hogg blanked the Bishops on 2 hits, allowing a second-inning single by Bonamase and a leadoff double by Truchan in the fifth.

Freshman righthander Lauren McIntire (Marysville/Buckeye Valley) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
