![]() Ohio Wesleyan 2, Otterbein 0 April 16, 2009 The Bishops took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the opener when junior first baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) led off with a double down the leftfield line. Junior outfielder Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) lofted a fly ball to center, with Bradley tagging up and moving to third on the play. Allen followed with another fly ball to center, with Cardinal centerfielder Kelsey Beers making the catch in shallow center. Beers threw home on the play, but her throw to the plate was high, allowing Bradley to score. Ohio Wesleyan added a run in the fourth as sophomore catcher Sarah Truchan (Westfield Center/Brunswick) doubled, moved to third on a single by junior outfielder Krystle Skaziak (Dublin/Scioto), and scored on a wild pitch. Meanwhile, Seibel allowed singles in the second, third, and fifth innings, stranding a runner at second base in each of those frames. She struck out 10 and walked one. Kristina Hayes was the starting and losing pitcher for Otterbein. In the nightcap, the Bishops built a 3-0 lead with a run in each of the first 3 innings. Bradley led off the first with a bunt single, stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on Allen's double to right center to put the Bishops on the scoreboard. In the second, junior second baseman Devon Walker (Baltimore/Watkins Memorial) singled, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on Bradley's single up the middle. Allen made it 3-0 with a shot over the wall in right center to lead off the third. Otterbein closed to within 3-1 in the fourth on a leadoff double by Lauren Tibjash, a sacrifice by Kendy Beers, and a single by Casey Clarridge. Freshman righthander Britt Rhea (Mount Vernon) came on in relief and shut down the Cardinal rally, fanning 2 of the next 3 hitters to get out of the inning. Ohio Wesleyan responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth, with Sanders and Allen knocking in the insurance tallies. The Cardinals rallied in the seventh, collecting a pair of hits and taking advantage of a Bishop error to score twice, but that was as close as Otterbein would come. Allen went 3-for-4 with a home run and 2 doubles, and drove in 3 of the Bishops' 5 runs. Rhea was credited with the win in relief. She retired 9 of the 10 batters she faced during her 3.0-inning relief stint. Nadine Bower was the starting and losing pitcher for Otterbein. |
