![]() Ohio Wesleyan 10, Oberlin 2 April 25, 2009 In the opener, freshman third baseman Ashley Allen (Richwood/North Union) went 4-for-4, including a homer, and drove in 3 runs to help the Bishops take the win. The Bishops struck quickly in the opener, loading the bases with nobody out in the first as junior first baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) was hit by a pitch, junior outfielder Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) walked, and Allen singled. Sophomore outfielder Tara VanVranken (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) and sophomore shortstop Kaylie Titus (East Hampton, N.Y.) followed with run-scoring ground outs to give the Bishops a 2-0 lead. Sanders delivered a 2-run single in the second to increase the Bishop lead to 4-0. Oberlin answered with 2 runs of its own in the bottom of the inning, collecting RBI singles by Katie Baldonieri and Kristine Kuchta. Ohio Wesleyan added 3 runs in the fourth with the help of RBI singles by Titus and Truchan, and closed out the scoring with Allen's 3-run homer in the fifth. Junior lefthander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) started in the circle for Ohio Wesleyan and pitched the first 2.0 innings. Freshman righthander Lauren McIntire (Marysville/Buckeye Valley) blanked the Yeowomen on 2 hits over the final 3.0 innings to collect the win. Michelle Zanni was the starting and losing pitcher for Oberlin. In the nightcap, it was the Yeowomen taking the early lead, getting a double from Kuchta and an RBI single by Sara Gaines. The Bishops took the lead in the second on a 2-run single by junior outfielder Krystle Skaziak (Dublin/Scioto), then added to the lead in the third as Sanders crushed a leadoff homer and junior third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney/Fairlawn) added a 2-run single later in the frame. Zanni's 2-run single in the fourth brought the Yeowomen within 5-3. Truchan got those runs back in the top of the fifth with a 2-run shot to center, and the Bishops put the game out of reach with 4 runs, with a 2-run single by freshman outfielder Abby Walsh (Millville, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) the big hit. Sanders, Truchan, Cook, Walsh, and Truchan drove in 2 runs apiece for Ohio Wesleyan. Freshman righthander Britt Rhea (Mount Vernon) pitched the first 5.0 innings to record the win. Jen Sees was the starting and losing pitcher for Oberlin. |
