![]() Wittenberg 5, Ohio Wesleyan 1 April 27, 2009 Wittenberg's Rachael Hatcher had fired a 2-hitter as the Tigers won the opener, setting up the scenario in which the winner of the second game would advance to the NCAC tournament as the No. 4 seed. Ohio Wesleyan took an early lead in the nightcap. Junior first baseman Emily Bradley (Columbus/Upper Arlington) led off the first inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice. Freshman third baseman Ashley Allen (Richwood/North Union) followed with an infield single, and the Tigers intentionally walked sophomore outfielder Tara VanVranken (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) to load the bases. Titus delivered a single to left, scoring Bradley and Allen, for a 2-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead. The Bishops added 4 runs in the second. With one out, junior outfielder Krystle Skaziak (Dublin/Scioto) legged out an infield single and Bradley followed with a bunt single. Junior outfielder Amanda Sanders (Lima/Bath) singled through the right side, scoring Skaziak. Bradley took third on the throw to the plate, with Sanders turning the corner at first and stealing second on the play. Allen followed with a grounder that Tiger shortstop Jessica Snyder misplayed, with Bradley scoring on the play, and after Allen stole second, Titus singled through the right side to score Sanders and Allen. Seibel struck out 4 and did not walk a batter. She allowed a leadoff single in the third to Cameron Catalfu and a one-out single in the seventh to Jade Chivington. Hatcher was the starting and losing pitcher for Wittenberg. In the opener, Wittenberg took a 1-0 lead in the second as Snyder beat out an infield single, moved to second on a sacrifice, stole third, and continued home when sophomore catcher Sarah Truchan (Westfield Center/Brunswick) threw wildly on the play. The Bishops got that run back in the third when Bradley reached on a bunt single, stole second, took third on Wittenberg catcher Liz Roby's throwing error, and scored when Hatcher threw wildly on Sanders's grounder. The Tigers answered in the top of the fourth, manufacturing a run with a leadoff single by Julie Ziegler, a pair of sacrifices, and a 2-out single by Katelyn Davis, and struck for another run in similar fashion in the fifth on Maranda Moore's bunt single, a sacrifice, and a bloop single to right center by Brooke Boswell. Wittenberg added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Catalfu and Jessi Allen. Seibel struck out 9 and walked 3 in working the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan. Hatcher fanned 6 and walked 2 for Wittenberg. |
