![]() Kenyon 71, Ohio Wesleyan 58 Jan. 2, 2009 Ohio Wesleyan led by as many as 6 points during a tightly-contested first half that saw lead changes in the double digits and 6 ties. Sophomore wing Tyler Cordell (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) hit a pair of free throws that gave the Bishops a 32-31 lead with just under a minute to play in the period, but Kenyon finished the half with a 3-pointer by Kat Powers for a 34-32 edge at the break. Gordon's jumper off a Cordell feed evened the game at 34-34 less than a minute into the second half, but the Ladies answered with a jumper from the lane by Kathleen Williams, then tacked on a Powers jumper, a pair of Lauren Stokes free throws, a 3-point play from Williams, and a pair of Morgan Korinek free throws for a 45-34 lead with 14:00 left in regulation time. Sophomore guard Pam Quigney (Mentor) buried a 3-pointer to end the Kenyon run, and the Bishops were still within 51-42 after Cordell drained a jumper from the lane with 11:58 to go. Kenyon pushed the lead back into double digits with baskets by Melissa Hart and Suzanne Kahle, and after a score by freshman post Dany Finck (Hilliard/Darby), the Ladies reeled off buckets by Hart, Stokes and Korinek before a 3-pointer by Taylor Lenci capped the run and gave Kenyon a 64-44 lead with 7:40 to play. The Bishops rallied, holding Kenyon to just 2 points during a 6-minute span down the stretch while closing the gap to 68-58 with the help of 6 points from senior post Katie Hamilton (Hilliard/Darby) and 3 more from Quigney, but that was as close as the Bishops would come. Cordell led the Bishops with 16 points and 5 assists. Gordon finished with 13 points and a team-high 9 boards, and Quigney added 12 points. Williams led Kenyon with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Powers finished with 18 points. |
