[ Kayla Gordon ]Sophomore post Kayla Gordon (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) scored 9 points and sophomore guard Pam Quigney (Mentor) added 7 more during a 24-0 first-half run that helped Ohio Wesleyan break open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Tuesday in Wooster.

The Fighting Scots had closed to within 11-8 on a 3-pointer by Kym Wenz with 17:36 left in the first half when the Bishops took off on their run.

Gordon started the scoring spree with a 3-pointer, then Quigney hit a lay-in before Gordon buried another 3-pointer, all in a span of 60 seconds.

Senior post Katie Hamilton (Hilliard/Darby) and sophomore wing Tyler Cordell (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) sandwiched fast-break lay-ins around a Quigney 3-pointer as the Bishops extended the margin to 26-8, and Cordell and Quigney added lay-ins just over a minute apart to give the Bishops a 30-8 lead.

Freshman wing Lea Mackenbach (St. Marys/Memorial) hit a pair of free throws before Gordon finished off the run with a 3-pointer that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 35-8 lead with 11:02 left in the first half.

Taylor Keegan hit a 3-pointer with 10:46 to play for Wooster's first points in more than 6 minutes, and the Fighting Scots chipped away at the deficit, collecting a pair of baskets by Kinsey Walker and a Wenz 3-pointer during a 9-2 run that finished off the first half, bringing the hosts within 49-28 at the break.

Wooster carried that momentum over into the second half, getting a basket from Deanna Pickett and a 3-pointer by Samantha Justice to close the gap to 49-33 just over a minute into the period, and the Fighting Scots narrowed the margin to 62-52 on a Colleen Goodwillie 3-pointer and a Walker lay-in with 7:44 left in regulation time.

Cordell countered with back-to-back 3-pointers for Ohio Wesleyan, ending that Wooster run. Junior wing Rachel Seibel (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) followed with a 3-pointer to push the Bishop lead back to 17 points, and the Fighting Scots would not come closer than 13 points during the remainder of the contest.

Quigney led the Bishops with 24 points and 7 assists. Gordon followed with 19 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Hamilton added 18 points and Cordell scored 13 points.

Keegan led Wooster with 14 points, and Wenz finished with a double-double, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds.
