![]() Stevenson 22, Ohio Wesleyan 11 March 10, 2009 The Mustangs jumped to an early lead on goals by Lauren Zegowitz and Kristyna Hnizda in the first 4 minutes before consective Copeland goals evened the game at 2-2 with 24:02 left in the first half. A pair of scores by freshman attacker Lena Knofler (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy) countered free-position goals by Mandi Carr and Zegowitz, leaving the game tied at 4-4 with 13:42 to play. Stevenson started its spurt with scores by Brittany Connelly and Kelli Battista, and Kirstin Gancarz and Spencer Kraus followed with goals less than a minute apart to give the Mustangs an 8-4 lead. Junior midfielder Haleigh Rohr (Nelson, N.H./Northfield Mt. Hermon (Mass.)) scored to end that Mustang run, but Stevenson's Mandi Carr scored a pair of goals just 25 seconds apart to kick off another 4-0 spree. Ohio Wesleyan rallied with scores by Copeland, senior midfielder Hannah Mudge (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School), and junior defender Lauren Rogers (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) to close within 12-8 at halftime. Stevenson put the game out of reach by scoring the first 3 goals of the second half, and after a score by sophomore midfielder Marlowe Mavian (Columbus/Wellington), the Mustangs tallied another 3 consecutive scores to pull away as the Stevenson defense held Ohio Wesleyan to 8 shots during the second half. Copeland led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Mudge finished with 2 goals and 2 assists. Rohr and Knofler finished with 2 goals apiece. Freshman Liz Searfos (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan goal, making 16 saves. Zegowitz led Stevenson with 4 goals, while Lisa Baker added 3 goals and 2 assists. Jenny Schroeder had 6 saves for Stevenson. |
