Bowdoin 18, Ohio Wesleyan 12

[ Hannah Mudge ]Senior midfielder Hannah Mudge (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) scored twice during a 4-0 run that wiped out an 11-7 halftime deficit, but Bowdoin bounced back to score the last 6 goals of the game in defeating Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference play on Thursday in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Ohio Wesleyan trailed, 11-5, late in the first half before sophomore midfielder Marlowe Mavian (Columbus/Wellington) and Mudge scored to bring the Bishops within 11-7 at halftime.

Junior midfielder Haleigh Rohr (Nelson, N.H./Northfield Mt. Hermon (Mass.)) converted a free-position shot to open up the second-half scoring, and Mudge followed with a free-position goal before scores by Mavian and Mudge evened the game at 11-11 with 22:50 left in regulation time.

Bowdoin's McKenna Teague and junior midfielder Abbey Miller (Woolwich, Maine/Morse) traded goals for a 12-12 deadlock with just under 20 minutes to play.

Ingrid Oelschlager converted a free-position shot to give the Polar Bears a 13-12 lead, and consecutive scores by Katie Herter just 38 seconds apart stretched the margin to 15-12. Katie Stewart added a goal less than a minute after that, and Bowdoin tacked on scores by Oelschlager and Christina Denitzio in the closing minutes.

Bowdoin had broken a 1-1 tie by scoring 5 straight going in the early going, with Oelschlager ringing up 2 of those scores, and Teague and Denitzio finishing off the run with goals just :12 apart.

Ohio Wesleyan rallied to within 8-5 on a free-position goal by freshman attacker Lena Knofler (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy), but the Polar Bears responded with 3 straight scores to take the 11-5 lead with 6:56 remaining in the first half.

Mudge shared the Bishop lead with 3 goals. Her third goal of the game, which tied the game at 11-11, also was the 100th of her Ohio Wesleyan career.

Mavian also scored 3 goals for Ohio Wesleyan, while Rohr and Knofler added 2 goals apiece.

Freshman Liz Searfos (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan goal, making 17 saves.

Oelschlager and Denitzio each had 4 goals for Bowdoin.

Steph Collins-Finn recoded 13 saves for the Polar Bears.
