Hartwick 9, Ohio Wesleyan 7

[ Hannah Mudge ]Senior midfielder Hannah Mudge (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) converted a free-position shot to give the Bishops a 7-6 lead, but Hartwick scored the last 3 goals of the game to edge Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference play on Saturday in Oneonta, N.Y.

Mudge's free-position goal broke a 6-6 tie and put Ohio Wesleyan ahead with 16:31 remaining in regulation time.

The Hawks tied the game at 7-7 on a score by Emily Piedigrossi with 9:21 to play, then took the lead on Brittany LaVaute's goal with 7:23 remaining.

Hannah Kennedy provided Hartwick some insurance with an unassisted goal with 3:34 left.

The Bishops and Hawks traded goals through the first 10 minutes of play, with Mudge scoring twice for Ohio Wesleyan and Tiffanie Bishop tallying twice for Hartwick, as the teams were tied at 3-3 before Hartwick took a 5-3 halftime lead on goals by LaVaute and Piedigrossi.

Ohio Wesleyan rallied in the second half, getting scores from Mudge and sophomore midfielder Marlowe Mavian (Columbus/Wellington) less than a minute apart to tie the game at 5-5 before taking a 6-5 lead when junior midfielder Jessica Copeland (Ligonier, Pa./Foxcroft (Va.)) converted a free-position shot with 20:42 left in regulation time.

Bishop scored for Hartwick to tie the game at 6-6 with 18:56 left.

Mudge led the Bishops with 4 goals, while Copeland finished with a goal and an assist.

Freshman Liz Searfos (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan goal, finishing with 7 saves.

Bishop led the Hawks with 3 goals and an assist, while Piedigrossi and LaVaute had 2 goals apiece.

Jen Kaye recorded 21 saves for Hartwick.
